Throughout the history of RAF Fylingdales and still today, Rough Fell Sheep are grazed on the land which surrounds the base. Fylingdales Moor sits within the an area at the top of the North York Moors National Park an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). In this image from 1963 the sheep are entering the perimeter gate south of the BMEWS Radar to the right of the image and the radio frequency tunnel beneath.
