Fylingdales Archive only holds one photograph of Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS) Site II, Clear, Alaska.
Fully operational from 1962, in this one aerial view of Clear you can see the BMEWS site in the landscape, the tracking radar AN- FPS -49 under construction, which all three sites had and another type of radar, used only at the Thule and Clear sites.
This was a stationary surveillance radar, 165 feet long and 450 feet tall, larger than a football field. Thule had four and Clear three facing out across the polar regions.
